Cheese moon fails
the cheese moon has failed
yet once
again
drowned in the bare
mercury river’s
dip
passing houseboats’
juxtapoints
colonies of river
monks
bearers of truths
always heavy
in the white summer’s
middle
ground
litanies goin’ nowhere
night still young
& over the top
all spectators
barbiturate…
rats leave barge
rusty
heavens
the moon shall feed
curiosity
the dip adds trust
to the monks’
foul taste
cascadin’ down the
pretty
rabies
tails
the cheese moon has failed
yet once
again
& the symptoms
were simply
outrageous
River actor beggars
one chilling noon
the bridge all new & enlightened
as opposed to our
spirit
all in patches & stain
middle of March
the marchy sun marchin’
our women ran away
w/ St.James queers & rag dolls
spiked as usual
wearin’ hundreds of dresses
at once
one giant umbrella
hourglass
hobo
we’ve had raw fish served on
rusty Coke cans
blue weeds to top it
a bit of salt that someone
brought in
some rum
found at the wrecked
fishing boat’s
deckhouse
the river would always feed
her beggars:
all people from her banks
are actors
the lowest deepest
society’s
scum
all people here are
beggars
the stage’s the marchy noon:
oiled
wooden
runaround
get ready for the play, boys
the river-a-callin’
the curtains set apart
impatiently waiting
for a new searing
drama…
the applause’s the always
near
rain
& rooftop carbon
black
chick

Cellos et Ghosts
As close as a poet can get to the madman
as soon you’ll find out you’re a madman too
and the cellos will play with the Ghost of Madeleine
the cellos will play till you go insane
Touch the edge of the glass, while the neon moon rises
she’s looking good and the new queen needs new horizons
needs’em wide, she is wise, can’t remember the face
why I ask but the mirror is silent
and my image uncertain, dimly forgotten
as close as lace to his fingers
stained from cigarettes, faded lightshine
perchance to dream of the lingers
Close to the glass, never been so sure
lips glued to cigarettes
body wretched, not willing to dance
anymore…
As close as nighttime could ever get to me
as soon you’ll understand what I really mean
while the cellos play, the Ghost begins to shake
to some wicked melody, twisted notes of fate
and her image uncertain, dimly forgotten
as close as lace to his fingers
stained from cigarettes, faded lightshine
perchance to dream of her lingers
Close to the glass, never been so sure
lips glued to cigarettes
body wretched, not willing to dance
it’s already dead
and the soul can’t save it
sparks of unknown origin
close to the glass…
close to end, say hello to the Ghost of Madeleine
say hello for me & kiss her with passion
kiss her with passion
for the last time…
Julie
After many years of ramblin’
sweet Julie found a home
in the arms of chillin’ mountains
well to her they were warm…
there she found a pleasent shelter
there she found undying love
in the starshine way above her
and the views down below
May the sun shine so warmly
may the river run so slow
may the shelter of the mountains
be sweet and forever yours…
Blow on, you wind so softly
run on, you worthy roads
rise high, you birds so gently
spread the clouds, you gotta make it slow
After many years of searchin’
for her traces in the snow
In the midst of silver forests
I have found my only love
yes, I’ve found a wondrous lady
with the world at her command
when she laughed, the flowers blossomed
when she cried, the sun went red
May the sun shine so warmly
may your eyes cry no more
may the shelter of the mountains
be forever your sweet home
Blow on, you wind so softly
run on, you worthy roads
rise high, you birds so gently
spread the clouds, you gotta make it slow
After many years of livin’
in our lonely mountain home
we decided to return
show ourselves back to the world
so goodbye you pleasant shelter
and goodbye sweet morning dew
watch the stars that shine above us
as we reach the city, all new
May the sun shine so warmly
through the glass and reddened smoke
may the spirit of the mountains
stay with us until the dawn
Blow on, you wind so softly
run on, you worthy roads
rise high, you birds so gently
spread the clouds, you gotta make it slow
spread the clouds, make it slow…
Moon in the Gutter
Moon in the gutter
diamonds turned to rust
summer jewels scattered
‘pon our crusted hearts
To the same old song, on the same old street
moonlight’s children move to the moonlight beat
to the very sound of the same romance
in the same old club, to the same tap dance
Old loves die hard…
if they ever ever die
old loves die hard…
if they ever ever die
Moon in the gutter
spillin’ through like wine
see the cables stutter
hear the signals dialed
To the same old song, on the same old street
moonlight’s children move to the moonlight beat
to the very sound of the same romance
in the same old club, to the same tap dance
Old loves die hard…
if they ever ever die
old loves die hard…
if they ever ever die
Moon in the gutter
precious like a tear
sheltered in your elbow
rested in your ear
Old loves die hard…
if they ever ever die
old loves die hard…
if they ever ever die
if they ever ever die
if they ever ever die…
California Death
Lord knows I made up my mind
I don’t wanna live anymore
lord knows I’m damn sure this time
I don’t wanna live anymore
Lord knows the smog fills my eyes
lord knows it rips out my lungs
lord knows I can’t get away
lord knows I’ve tried…
California Death
all around the world
all around this land
one voice is heard
mercy, mercy me…
California Death…
Lord knows I made up my mind
I don’t wanna be her slave
lord knows I’m damn sure this time
I’d rather dig my own grave
Lord knows she’s outta her mind
lord knows she’s threading this land
lord knows the killing gets done
lord don’t give a damn…
California Death
all around the world
all around this land
one voice is heard
mercy, mercy me…
California Death…
Lord knows I made up my mind
I don’t wanna serve anymore
Lord knows I made up my mind
the corn’s all now smeared with gore
Lord knows the tax ruins me
lord knows it creeps up my spine
lord knows I’m done over with
lord knows it’s over by now
California Death
all around the world
all around this land
one voice is heard
mercy, mercy me…
California Death…
Last Rebel Standing
And as the night falls down on this goddamn hollow city
you can hear the roar of a broken-down machine
once a motorcycle queen
for the motorcycle king
last rebel standing on the barricade
waiting for death to come…
And all the chrome gets rusty faster
oh but this cage it never rusts…
the facts are clearer now than rules
the rules are faster than their lies…
last rebel standing on the barricade
waiting for death to come…
last rebel standing on the barricade
waiting for death to come…
Last rebel standing for the rock’n’roll
last rebel standing for love
last rebel standing for the value of truth
a value of his own
last rebel standing on the barricade
last rebel standing on the barricade
last rebel standing on the barricade
last rebel standing…
last rebel standing
last rebel
down…
